FOREST MONITORING

Forest monitoring is a system of observation, estimation and prognostication of forest resources state and dynamics aimed at sustainable forest management, sound use, forest protection and regeneration, increasing of its environmental, protective, sanitary and recreational role.

Forest monitoring is a part of National Environment Monitoring System of Republic of Belarus. It is realized according to Technical Project and Governmental program for 2006-2010.

Specialized service of Ministry of Forestry accomplishes forest monitoring in Belarus since 1989 on National raster net according to Pan-European technology. National forest monitoring net includes 1450 permanent registration points (PRP) and 80 permanent sample plots (PSP). Permanent registration points are evenly disposed on the territory of republic. Every year in the context of ecological forest monitoring on PRP and PSP there are inspected according to method of ICP Forests nearby 40 ths trees.

2002 there was finished the equipping of applied-research laboratory, which disposes of modern analytic equipment. This ensured that Belarus got an opportunity of further integration to the Pan-European Forest Monitoring System and of getting of valuable information for forest state forecasting.

State estimation of account trees was 2006 accomplished on 1 205 PRPs and 77 PSPs. 28 794 account trees on PRP and 10 819 trees on PSP were inspected.
